Updated On: Sep 12, 2011 (20:11:00)

The Lexington Firefighters Memorial was surrounded by flags, firefighters and honor guards as a September 11th Remembrance ceremony was held on the 10th anniversary.  Keynote speaker Ken Donnelly was present and was joined at the podium by Lt. Bob Cunha, President L1491 and Interim Fire Chief Keith Hoyle and Police Chief Mark Corr.  Nearly 3/4 of the departments firefighters both on and off duty remembered those lost during September 11th especially the firefighters, police officers and EMS workers.  FDNY Special Signal 5-5-5-5 was tapped out on the ceremonial bell, as the flag was raised then lowered to half staff and the fife and drum band of the Lexington Minuteman performed the National Anthem.  Residents and passersby filled the front of the station as all paused in a moment of silence, as Arlington Firefighter Chuck Carnell played "Amazing Grace."  Firefighter Mark Simonds, who organized the event, thanked all who helped out in planning and participating in the ceremony.  The Lexington Fire Department Honor Guard chose this date to debut their new uniforms.  See the photo gallery to see photos taken by Ned Bolle.
